I have been teaching children since the summer of 1997, beginning in Taiwan where I was given the professional name "Mr. Luo". Over the following 13 years, I taught in China and Mexico before returning to Taiwan to manage a large childcare center in Tainan for three years. Upon returning home to California, I established an after-school program for disadvantaged children in Sacramento and subsequently served at a Native American child development center. In the fall of 2014, I opened Mr. Luo's Academy, a home-based daycare facility licensed by the State of California.

My Approach to Discipline

Boundaries provide students with the necessary structure to experience the greatest degree of freedom and engagement within a school environment. As an educator, my primary responsibility is to maintain clarity and consistency, thereby fostering a secure space where students can experiment, err, and grow without the imposition of fear or shame. I do not view children as passive recipients of information; rather, my role is to identify and mitigate the physical, emotional, conceptual, linguistic, and social obstacles that may impede a child’s personal development or their acquisition of knowledge and skills.

Guest Teacher

Ms. Imai

Ms. Imai is a stellar career teacher with Sacramento Unified School District.  She lives with Mr. Luo and contributes greatly to the curriculum and expertice of the Academy.  When Ms. Imai is not making a difference at her elementary school, she is often found participating here at the Academy.  We are very lucky to have her as support and friend.
