Director

Aaron "Mr. Luo" Rotz

I've been teaching children since the summer of 1997 in Taiwan, where my teaching name, "Mr. Luo", was given to me.  The next 13 years I divided my time teaching in China, Mexico and later, Taiwan again.  I ran a large childcare center in Tainan, Taiwan for three years before returning home to California.  I have been teaching here in Sacramento ever since; creating an afterschool program for disadvantaged chidren and then working at a Native American child development center.  In the fall of 2014, I opened my own school, Mr. Luo's Preschool Adaemy, a home based day care facility licensed by the State of California.

My Approach to Discipline

Boundaries allow students to enjoy the most freedom and fun in a school setting.  It is my primary responsibility as an adult in a child’s emotional/ intelectual life to be clear and consistent, allowing them a safe space to try, to make mistakes and to learn, free from externally imposed fear and shame.  Children are NOT vessels which I fill with knowledge or skills.  It is my role to discern and help remove the obstacles (physical, emotional, conceptual, linguistic and social) that hinder the child’s personal development and acquisition of skills and knowledge.

Guest Teacher

Ms. Imai

Ms. Imai is a stellar career teacher with Sacramento Unified School District.  She lives with Mr. Luo and contributes greatly to the curriculum and expertice of the Academy.  When Ms. Imai is not making a difference at her elementary school, she is often found participating here at the Academy.  We are very lucky to have her as support and friend.

Assistant Intern

Ms. Ava

This last year we were very fortunate to have Ms. Ava as an intern.  Ava spent two days a week for the entire 2014-15 school year working with the academy to build our classroom, our curriculum and our culture.  Ms. Ava is a natural with kids, bringing out their best efforts and kindest spirits.  We couldn't have been more fortunate than having her help build the school from the ground up.
